چکیده

INTRODUCTION –Short-Axis Propeller EPI (SAP-EPI) has been shown to be very effective in obtaining highresolution, artifact-free DTI data [2]. One challenge with SAP-EPI is that in the presence of head rotation each blade of SAP-EPI data is potentially encoded with a different diffusionencoding direction (i.e. b-matrix) (Fig. 1). Since the diffusion-encoding is ‘imprinted’ on the magnetization, a simple counter-rotating of blades does not suffice. It has been shown recently that this necessitates non-linear methods to reconstruct diffusion tensors accurately [1]. In this study, we investigated the effects of our correction scheme on SAP-EPI and its consequences on tractography.

b-Matrix Correction Applied to High Resolution DTI

INTRODUCTION – High resolution Diffusion Tensor Imaging (DTI) has been challenging for several reasons. Perhaps the major obstacle is due to the random phase effects that change between successive shots and pixel-by-pixel misregistration caused by patient motion. In addition, DTI images acquired with EPI are typically hampered by geometric distortion, blurring, and – in the case of multi-shot E...

Methods to Improve Fiber Reconstruction at DTI-Based Tractography in the Area of Brain Tumor: Case Illustration and Literature Review

Background and Aim: DTI-based tractography could help us to visualize the spatial relation of fiber tracts to brain lesions. Several factors may interfere with the procedure of diffusion-based tractography, especially in brain tumors. The aim of the current study is to discuss several solutions to improve the procedure of fiber reconstruction adjacent or inside brain lesions. Illustrative cases...

Effects of image distortions originating from susceptibility variations and concomitant fields on diffusion MRI tractography results

In this work we investigate the effects of echo planar imaging (EPI) distortions on diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) based fiber tractography results. We propose a simple experimental framework that would enable assessing the effects of EPI distortions on the accuracy and reproducibility of fiber tractography from a pilot study on a few subjects. We compare trajectories computed from two diffusio...

Effects of Susceptibility Distortion on Fiber Tractography in Diffusion Tensor Imaging

No: 2361 Authors: M Irfanoglu1, Lindsay Walker1, Carlo Pierpaoli1 Institutions: 1NIH, Bethesda, MD Introduction: White matter fiber tractography from diffusion MRI data is widely used in the neuroscience community and in clinical research settings to investigate white matter pathways in the human brain. Diffusion weighted images (DWIs) are generally acquired with echo planar imaging (EPI) and s...
